Font Calda
This stunnng, little known beauty spot, is a bit of a journey, but well worth the effort & very popular with the locals. It is a steep and picturesque gorge cut by a (now small) river, where you can swim, watch the daredevil divers, climb the rocky pathways, picnic, sunbathe fish or just enjoy the scenery. There are toilets, a restaurant and a café up the hill, as well as a small campsite.
From Mora D´Ebre head out to Gandesa on the N420. In the centre of Gandesa there is a roundabout with three stone balls, take the second exit signed o Bot or Horta st Joan. Continue past both these villages until you come to a T junction with a main road. Turn left to Prat de Comte. This road goes straight past Prat de Comte, but you must turn into the village, head uphill to the back and a road leaves the village heading uphill but in almost the same direction as you were travelling on the main road. As it leaves the village this road is signposted to Font Calda. Continue along this windy mountainous road and it will eventually come to an end at a disused railway station. The old track has been turned into a walking and cycling path, but on this section you can drive. Turn onto where the track used to be and turn left. Go under two tunnels. When you come out of the tunnel, you turn a corner and the track is closed off to vehicles but you can turn left to go downhill. This is where the start of the waterfall is.
To leave I usually come back the same way till I reach Prat de Comte. On the main road I turn left. This will take you all the way back to the Tortosa road just below Benifallet. At one point as you head back, there is a T junction. Turn right signposted to Tortosa. When you reach the main tortosa road, turn left and this will take you all the way back to Mora.
